Celebrate a Moonlit Evening at Crooked River Lighthouse
Join us at the Crooked River Lighthouse for Twilight at the Tower as part of Crooked River Park Fest on Saturday, January 31 from 5:00-8:00 pm with live music by The Waterbirds, an outdoor movie, The Lighthouse Keepers (PG13)., after-hours museum tours and a glowing bonfire under the beautiful Snow Moon. This special after-hours event invites visitors to enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as the golden sun sets below the horizon, and the evening sky darkens. This family-friendly festival celebrates the return of the lighthouse’s original Fresnel lens with proceeds benefitting the maintenance of Crooked River Lighthouse Park. Twilight at the Tower admission is $5 for the general public, free for current members and free for kids 12 and under. (Daytime admission to Park Fest is free.)
The Waterbirds take the stage aboard the Pirate Ship filling the air with their talented sounds from 5-6:30 pm. The group will bring a lively mix of reggae, folk, jazz, rock, blues, and original songs, guaranteed to get toes tapping. Featuring singer-songwriter Susan David alongside Terry Koral, Rick Kohl, and Paul Adams, their dynamic performance is not to be missed. Then from 6:30-8 pm visitors can enjoy an outdoor movie, The Lighthouse Keepers (PG13). This will be a night of fantastic music and full moon magic.
Delicious food and desserts will be available from Mamaw's Fresh Catch and the Beacon Bistro. Visitors can enjoy an after-hours tour of the Keeper’s House Museum and see the exhibit of the lighthouse’s original, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris, France. The lighthouse gift shop will also be offering unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. A glowing bonfire will light up the night, creating a perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy the evening. Guests are welcome to bring a chair and relax on the grounds as the color of the sky goes from watercolor hues to evening blues and the first evening star appears.
Visitors seeking an unforgettable experience can enjoy twilight tower climbs to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast. From the top, climbers will be treated to panoramic views of St. George Sound, Carrabelle Beach, the brilliant colors of the sunset, and the glow of the rising moon. As part of Park Fest, evening tower climbs will be a special price of $5 for ages 13 and up. Children 12 and under are free with an adult and must be at least 44 inches tall. Current members also climb free. Evening climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. ABOUT MOONLIT EVENING EVENTS
Enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the rising moon. Take an after-hours tour of the Keeper’s House Museum and visit the exhibit for the lighthouse’s original, historic Fresnel lens. Browse inside the Lighthouse Gift Shop for unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. Chill by the glowing bonfire in the park (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening with us.
At the Moonlit Evening events, evening climbs are also available for those brave souls who are bold enough to venture to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse. Climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay. All climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. There will be a time limit for viewing from the top. Tickets are required for those who wish to climb the lighthouse tower during this event. Tickets are available by dropping by our gift shop or online. Advance purchase is strongly suggested as slots may sell out.
Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday.
